The Ann Whitney Olin Women's Building at Washington University in St. Louis stands today as a powerful reminder of what happens when excluded groups are able to claim space for themselves. Established by the fundraising efforts of female students who lacked a space to gather, it was designed to intentionally foster community and comfort. Over time, its purpose expanded, from housing sororities to hosting student media outlets, to now serving as a hub for affinity groups and cultural organizations. What began as a space built by and for women has evolved into a center for conversation, where students continue to build upon the Women Building's legacy of fostering inclusion and dialogue on equal ground. Now, the Women's Building continues to demonstrate how creating intentional spaces for conversation encourages participation and broader inclusion and dialogue across campus.
